May Meeting Minutes (M3)

It's not the most colorful - but considering printer ink is 300x the price of gas, I thought I'd save you all the expense. Post them EVERYWHERE you want.

And now, on to the story.

The affair started off with an update from Officer Rogers on the local police reports. It seems there have been some vehicle break in's along Highland and the surrounding streets - mostly between 12 and 4am - and all on cars parked on the streets. They are taking electronics - easily fenced items that are usually left sitting in a very visible spot on the seats of the car. Remember to lock up your valuables, or at least make SOME effort to hide them.

Also, we are heading into a new offensive by the PD - Street Crimes will be initiating Operation Phase-Out, targeting hot spots of "gang" activity, group problems, and group violence. There will be 3-6 more officers on duty in SE during this program, along with surveillance. It will be a "Zero Tolerance" offensive, where targeted areas will be swept for every violation and infraction possible. There will be random stops - usually targeted for the overnight hours, and mostly of groups of 2 or more wandering the streets - and we, the Southeast Action Forum heartily support this effort.

Good news, in the last effort like this - 28 adults and 15 juvies were arrested, and a streets months of misery with the thugs that held control ended. Thats a good thing.

The Community Gardens, via Mark, are humming along smoothly. They received a grant for $1500 to put fencing around a garden, and are looking to actively expand the reach of the space. They are also nearing completion of their own organizational make-up, and will be meeting and electing their first board of directors shortly.

Laura reported on the Valley Clean Up day, with 20 people showing up collecting 15 large bags of trash along 9th street and into Morningside park.

There was discussion of Adopting a Street, along with aiding the city in cleaning up graffiti.
Provided we do not get biblical flooding on Monday, there is a good chance that there will be a graffiti cleanup.

And now, the information everyone really wants. The Ice Cream Social and Brain-Freeze-A-Thon.

Flyers have been created - plans are laid, and a game that has not been seen in Southeast since the early days of the Viscose plant will be making a return.
