The following is a very important announcement by the Southeast Action Forum, Inc.
Urgent: Motorists warned to take caution on Southeast Roads at night.
The Southeast Action Forum has received reports of deer and other animals on the roads around Southeast Roanoke after dark. Tonight (10/21/07) 2 cars narrowly avoided collision with a young deer which was heading from the new greenway towards Mill Mountain crossing Riverland Road just before the 9th St. Bridge.
Coming on the heels of the Fred Whitaker plants invasion by a pair of young deer, it is evident that the drought is moving the deer closer to the river for food or water. Other animals have not been so lucky. The number of roadkill one encounters on a daily basis seems to be growing.
Please, be careful on the roads - and ever watchful.
In other news, the SEAF was not one of the top 100 selected for the Case Foundation's "Make it your Own" awards. We tried, but there is always next year. However, we will have access to a tool which will make it much easier for both of us to directly influence the future of Southeast. Look for it in the next week or so.
Also, the SEAF is currently seeking full non-profit status. As it is, we are decidedly organized as non-profit, however we are not federally (or state) recognized as such. Full non-profit status will give us a great advantage in serving Southeast.
Our first meeting of November, the 7th, will be a class in Neighborhood watches and safety being run by the Roanoke City Police Department. It will run 2-3 hours in length, and will inform us all on how to better stand watch over our streets. All are welcome to attend, but we do ask for an RSVP (you can e-mail or call the hotline 204-3637) so we can get a headcount on who and how many will be attending.
Thats the latest from the Forum, working to better the future of Southeast.
