First of all, we do have a meeting coming up this Wed. at 7 p.m., at which a representative of the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission will be on hand to ask us about transportation issues in Southeast, and Roanoke.
The questions we as citizens of Southeast need to answer are:
- Do you feel your neighborhood is well connected to the regional transportation system?
- Are there any groups of people (e.g. teenagers, elderly, low-income) in your neighborhood that could benefit from additional or expanded transportation options? What forms of transportation do you feel would be effective?
- What features work to enhance transportation safety in your neighborhood? How do you feel transportation safety could be improved?
- What role do you see technology playing in transportation? In your neighborhood?
- Over the next twenty years, how can transportation in your neighborhood and the region be improved?
And I know some of you have definite opinions on the "traffic calming" initiative. Come down and be heard.
In other news, we are getting closer to the announcement for the grant. We received this in the email today:
"As you know, we were planning to announce the Top 100 semifinalists in
mid-September. We are delighted to report that thousands of inspired
individuals and passionate teams submitted grant applications. So many
applied, in fact, that we needed to extend the initial evaluation
period to ensure that each application receives a thorough and
thoughtful review.
We will now announce the Top 100 on October 18, 2007. Everyone who
applied will be notified individually of our decision via e-mail, and
we will also make a public announcement on our website,
http://www.casefoundation.org?EMC-VR&ID=MIYO. "
We are on our way folks, not to mention we have the paperwork for non-profit status started.
Hope to see you all there, we have these things and a whole lot more to talk about. Including the revival of the Neighborhood Watch here in Southeast.
Come on down!
