In what was the largest turnout for a meeting this year - the Rescue Mission came out seeking support from the Southeast Action Forum for the new project at the Church of the Foursquare site.
What project? Well, all zoning and other legalities aside - Maryellen Goodlatte spoke about the purchase of the property, and what plans the Mission had for it. In a nutshell, the Mission seeks to turn the 2 corner houses (7th and Bullitt) into efficiency apartments for graduates of it's program. Requirements include 1 year of full time employment, being an active member of a church and society, being fully clean and other similar things. They hope to have 7 apartments available for graduates, with an 8th being given to a employee of the Mission itself.
There is also a possible future retail use for one of the outbuildings on the site.
The regular business got underway with a woman from the 600 block of Elm Ave. SE who was having problems with neighbors in a rental house across the street. These same people had been physically removed once before from the property, and as of 2pm today - should be evicted in totality from the house.
The Vice President of the Forum gave a report on a new grant available - a $35,100 grant (in total - actually 3 levels of grants equaling $35,100) and gave some of the qualifications to recieve the grant.
Challenging to bring forth ideas that will continue to benefit the community for the next 100 years, but some were theorized.
August 7th is National Night Out, and the SEAF is considering a way to mark this date.
A call for a 2nd meeting this month was seconded, and is being scheduled as we speak.
These minutes are considered incomplete due to the vast amount of topics up for discussion at this meeting, and will be amended to reflect the next meeting.
Watch this space for the next meetings time.
