Well folks, there it went. Our Roanoke Neighborhood Month event, the revived Weenie Roast. What a beautiful Saturday it turned out to be, even with the cloud cover keeping things a bit on the cool side.
Wish we had some photos to share, but trust us. If you missed it, you missed a whole lot. Tours of old Station 6, including the original wooden lockers dating back to 1908. The old place is still in great shape, and we look forward to having more events there in the future. There were games for the kids, Officer Travis Akins manned the RCPD's monster grill for us.
We raised a bit of money, but more importantly, we raised awareness of the group in an area which has for the past several years not seen our presence beyond an antique sign at the front of an antique firehouse.
And with any luck, we made a few new friends... the headcount stood at 85, including the police and fire department.
That's one major event down and one to go.. next meeting, June 5th..
Election Night!
A little birdie tells me we have a full slate of candidates for office. Announcements to follow on that front shortly.
