Just checking in

So far, there has been no word on any announcement regarding the grant. No word on that certain project. No word in general. Quiet month so far.

However, that does not mean the Forum is resting on it's laurels. The Forum is working out dates and arrangements for a class on forming Neighborhood Watches, what to look for and how to record/report it.

Anyone interested? Drop a line - this class is not only for Southeast residents (but it would be NICE), and will be sponsored by the Forum in conjunction with the Roanoke City PD.

We are thinking the 1st week of November will be the best time to get everyone involved together, so if you have any thoughts of attending - keep it in mind.

At the next Forum meeting, we will be talking with a representative from the Roanoke-Allegheny Regional Transportation as they update the regional plan.

Some of the questions we will be asked are:
- Do you feel your neighborhood is well connected to the regional transportation system?
- Are there any groups of people (e.g. teenagers, elderly, low-income) in your neighborhood that could benefit from additional or expanded transportation options? What forms of transportation do you feel would be effective?
- What features work to enhance transportation safety in your neighborhood? How do you feel transportation safety could be improved?
- What role do you see technology playing in transportation? In your neighborhood?
- Over the next twenty years, how can transportation in your neighborhood and the region be improved?

Think about these as we wait for the next meeting. Your answers could change the shape of traffic in Southeast.

Amtrak, we need Amtrak to stop in town, itd be nice, due to teh regional airport in town, then they can get connections to VT and colleges that you cant fly to... Save both money, and itd be better then driving! Also, who wouldnt want to take a train to DC, just as a day trip? i think it would be worth it, we might be able to rake in some god revenue from Amtrak stopping here.

Just a thought

The TDX (TransDominion Express) is nearing useful funding, but like everything else around here - is taking it's sweet, sweet time. That would link Bristol, TN (Possibly extending back to Memphis) with DC, coming straight through Roanoke, with a branch in Lynchburg to take you to Richmond.

Will it happen? It better.

Yea, i couldnt agree more, but we need it here, think of the possibilities, Most of the city would benefit the Train stopping here, and there would be a hotel (The Roanoke Hotel) Right up the hill from the supposed station.

And yes the TDX, is taking its sweet time, Its one of the many things that railroads could do for us

Well you know, Everything here takes its time!
