The SE Division of the Roanoke City Police Department has come across an interesting site - myhometownhelper.com
The fine folks at General Mills/Hamburger Helper are generously giving grants to communities with a need for the funds, and the will to use them.
Our representative officers have determined that graffiti clean-up is one key way that we (and they) can bring about a change in our community. They have estimated it would cost around $4,000 to clean up the worst of the worst - and some of the most visible. The $4,000 would be used for the tools and paint to get the job done - there is already a list of volunteers.
48 sites have been identified for clean-up. All we need is your help. Please, if you are a resident of Southeast - or care in the least about Roanoke's future - click this link.
All you need to do is comment. You need to fill in your name, your e-mail address, and your birth date - and leave a short comment on this grant request. Let them know the citizens of southeast stand with the police in wanting to make the area clean and attractive.
And do not think they all live somewhere else. A good number of officers who patrol SE - live in SE.
And more are coming every day.
Southeast is desirable, but it needs a little help to make it shine.

I put my two cents worht in too. I also emailed the information to all my friends and coworkers that I thought might help.
Sure hope SE gets the grant.
Graffiti cleanup is a worthy cause. And the quicker it gets done the better; that way the little vandals don't have time to "show off" their insensitive and inconsiderate deed, and perhaps they would be less inclined to do it the next time if they knew it wouldn't last. Unfortunately the problem continues to fester.
